Insert injection molding

Insert injection molding

Insert moulding consists of injection moulding around a metal or plastic insert. Inserts are used to create strong, metal, re-usable threads. RCT MFG offers insert moulding and can provide inserts or work with free-issued inserts or specified inserts as you require.

Metal injection molding

Metal injection molding is a process very similar to plastic injection molding in which molten metal is injected into a cast and solidified to create a metal part. The difference with metal injection molding is that it requires post-processing including debinding and sintering. Metal injection molding is used to create small and intricate metal parts of around 1–100 grams.

Overmolding

are two-part injectionmolding processes whereone material is overlaidonto a second substratepart or metal insert tocreate a singlecomponent.

The Plastic Injection Molding Process

Plastic injection molding is the process of filling a mold tool with liquid plastic resin under great pressure. The tool may comprise a single cavity or hundreds of cavities in order to make indefinite numbers of parts. Once the mold tools have been carefully designed and manufactured, the molding process consists of the following basic steps:

  • Step 1 – The plastic resin comes in raw pellets. These are dried to the right moisture content, and then if necessary they can be blended with pigments or master batch colorants to create the correct color for the design.
  • Step 2 – The dried pellets are poured into the hopper of the molding machine. A reciprocating screw inside the barrel of the machine is used to transport these pellets towards the mold while at the same time heating them.
  • Step 3 – Within the barrel, the pellets are mixed and heated until fully molten, forming the liquid resin.
  • Step 4 – The heated mold closes automatically and resin, under great pressure, is injected through a gate and into the mold cavity.
  • Step 5 – The mold is cooled in a short amount of time to solidify the part inside.
  • Step 6 – The mold opens and the part is ejected to begin a new cycle.

Different Surface Finishing Options

With various surface finishing options, RCT MFG can make your injection molded products look and work better. Different finishing methods can be chosen for different needs. Below are some of the techniques we use to refine your injection molded parts:

Bead Blasting

Bead blasting is a way in which injection molded parts are cleaned and refined. It uses high-pressure glass or steel beads to blast the surface into a uniform, matte finish. It's a good method if you want to look uniform and professional.

Pad Printing

The multi-functional pad printing process is excellent for applying company logos and brand names, as well as all kinds of decorative designs, to the surface of injection molded products. This is a good choice if you're looking to customize your own personalization and increase the attractiveness of your parts.

Etching

To raise the roughness of injection molded parts, our surface etching method is used. By chemical or physical means, we can create texture and finish that meets your needs.

Laser Finishing

Injection molded parts can undergo laser surface treatment. This is a very exacting thermal process. It engraves fine lines and pictures, firm company taglines or little logos with great precision. It can heat up to several hundred degrees Celsius by absorbing the light on its surface layer.

In-house production and quality assurance

RCT MFG offers injection molding services at multiple locations, all capable of fully automated assembly for the highest quality and consistency. Our state-of-the-art equipment includes injection molding machines with clamping forces ranging from 30 tons to 800 tons, including multiple 2-component and 3-component injection molding machines. These facilities also provide rapid repair, service and modification of on-site tooling, ensuring continued availability of production molds.  We have production facilities specializing in CAD, mold making, tool repair and maintenance, prototyping, injection molding, testing, secondary operations (assembly, printing, painting and sterilization), logistics, shipping, and in-house tool development.
